My latest print, Dog Ears was originally intended to be on white paper, in Paynes Grey for textured areas and Black for the lines, see previous post. I also had a few sheets of grey blue paper, similar to my Paynes Grey mix, so I printed those too, with white as the printed texture.
I usually play around with scraps of paper, mainly because I don't want to stop printing once I've started, and I am drawn to bright colours. So I printed a smaller portion of the print on red and liked the result. So, I booked another print session at East Side Print open access studio, and printed on Bright Red Canson card, and Buttercup Yellow Canson card. You can find all the versions of 'Dog Ears' in my shop here. My latest print is 'Dog Ears' a two layered screen print in black and Payne's Grey. Featuring crayony lines and a variety of textures, this is an edition of 12 prints printed on two surfaces, 300gsm Watercolour (creamy white) and 300gsm Snowdon (white).
I prepared the positives by hand, drawing directly onto tracing paper with oil pastel, and collaging the textured layer with sponged and brushstroke textures. I will have some of these prints at my next event, but in the meantime it is available to buy online. You can buy 'Dog Ears' via my shop here. My latest screen Print, Dog Days is now available in my shop.
I tried to be a bit more specific with dog breeds here, and used my observations of dogs at markets I have been to lately. So if you have been one of my customers this year, your dog could be in there. I used a lovely crayon-like texture to give the images a lively feel, and the dogs have a quirky amused look. Dogs are funny. As always I tried out different colour combinations. I printed several layers to get all the different colours with a pink background version, and a turquoise background version. The prints are A3 and will fit regular off-the-shelf frames. I think I will be making some more prints in this series, perhaps individual dogs next time, on a smaller scale. |
