About Jo Brown, Illustrator and Printmaker

I am an experienced illustrator (more than 25 years)
I work from my home studio in East Sussex, UK.

If you ever meet me, you will know from my accent that I am forever a Northerner!
I am currently enjoying exploring Screen Printing again and you can find the results in my shop and at Print Fairs around the country.

I have illustrated 40 ish children's books of all sorts, including fiction/ non-fiction/ novelty/touch and feel/pop-up. Some of these were also written by me.
I love drawing, painting and just about everything in between. I love bright colour and pattern and texture, creating characters and stories and I absolutely love picture books.
(I love all books actually, but picture books
have ...um... pictures in them)

Beyond books, I have illustrated packaging, for food and for toys and games, and also a range of food treats for dogs and cats.
I love screen printing and produce my own range of hand printed goods which you can find in my HappyTomato Shop

I  also design for
stationery, giftwrap and textiles.
I have an MA in Fashion and Textiles, and have always loved colour and pattern, and can put patterns into repeat. And I don't mean just press a button and let photoshop do it.
I have illustrated several very large ranges (I mean HUGE) of greetings cards for a major wholesaler; and another range of children's birthday cards I illustrated for an independent card publisher was a Henries finalist.
I produce my own ranges of cards, some digitally printed, some hand
screen printed. You can find my current card selection here. Yes I would be interested in your shop stocking my cards, send me an email.

I prefer to work with paper paints and pencils, as I like the unexpected effects using real materials can give, I'm all about the analogue! ( but I can supply artwork digitally )
You can read more about my process in my
 blog.
